UNICON Study: Mobile Learning Offers Growing Opportunities for Executive Education Programs Around the Globe

Minneapolis, Minnesota (PRWEB) January 12, 2012

New research from UNICON (International University Consortium for Executive Education) reveals that many business schools across the globe have untapped opportunities to provide innovative executive education learning programs facilitated by mobile technology. The UNICON report, ?Going mobile in executive education,? is based on research conducted by UNICON member Ashridge Business School in the United Kingdom. It analyzes the potential impact of mobile technologies on the executive education learning landscape around the world. The report looks at mobile learning, and how portable technologies — smartphones , PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), handheld computers and personal media players — can support and extend the reach of teaching and learning.

The report finds that some learning providers are embracing mobile learning and developing new approaches to learning. Included in the report are detailed case studies of: Abilene Christian University (USA), The Open University (UK), Ashridge Business School (UK), Harvard Business School (USA), Seton Hill University (USA), IMD (Switzerland), EPIC, (UK), and Skill Pill, University of Cape Town (South Africa).

While the research highlights examples of innovative applications of mobile learning in business schools, universities and the private sector around the globe, it concludes that many more executive education providers today could be maximizing the vast potential of mobile devices for learning.

?The future of executive education is about choice and personalisation. Our survey makes clear that providers should not wait for the industry to settle,? said UNICON Chairman Bill Shedden, who also serves as Director of the Centre for Customised Executive Education at the Cranfield School of Management in Bedford, England. ?Our recent State of the Industry survey also found that while many executive education providers are moving cautiously, they have begun experimenting with technology and ? in many cases ? are taking more technology initiative than clients expect or demand. In other words, executive education clients look to university-based providers to help them understand what new technology is important.

?The global nature of businesses and the growing capabilities of powerful mobile devices mean that adopting new technologies in learning is essential to continuing to attract clients in the competitive executive education market,? Shedden continued. ?UNICON is dedicated to helping its members learn more about how to effectively adopt new technologies and to remain industry leaders in university-based executive education programs around the globe.?

Mobile technology can help provide executives with pre- and post-course support, and the latest mobile learning applications can extend their access to a multimedia-rich education. It also provides a means for participants to stay connected with one another as professional resources after a program ends. Other benefits of mobile learning identified by the report include:

?????Just enough? learning ? highly applied, easily digestible learning for busy executives.
?????Just-in-time? learning ? convenient, flexible and relevant learning at the exact moment learning is required.
?????Just-for-me? learning ? learning can be accessed via mobile devices in many different ways, which means that there are opportunities for it to appeal to many different learning styles.
????Mobile devices can facilitate collaboration. SMS texting reminders, knowledge sharing forums and ?ask a question? forums enable and enhance interaction between participants and instructors.

Research Fellow at Ashridge Business School and UNICON report co-author Dr Carina Paine Schofield noted, ?Advances in mobile technologies and high levels of mobile phone penetration are changing the way that learning is being adopted and used in educational contexts, and it has evolved into more than e-learning with a phone. Mobile learning offers easier access to learning materials so students can be more productive with their time. It empowers executive education providers to serve up learning in multiple formats ? audio, visual or text ? to suit individual learning styles.?

Ashridge Business School was one of the first executive education providers to establish an online learning resource. Its online learning platform, Virtual Ashridge, lets students home in on certain interests and choose a style of learning that fits their personality without information overload: some may want to listen to an audio file or read text, while others may want to take part in an online discussion.

Director of Learning Services at Ashridge Business School Tony Sheehan said: ?Mobile learning offers a powerful opportunity to introduce learning on demand. It allows individuals to connect to executive education at a time that suits them and in a way that can support current business challenges. Learners are no longer dependent on the classroom, as mobile devices allow learners to connect in times of reflection ? a long train journey, a daily commute ? where the mind is alert and open to new insights.

?During these times of austerity, mobile and e-learning tutorials also provide a cost- and time-efficient way of educating staff that avoids the travel and accommodation costs of off-site courses,? Sheehan added.

About UNICON

Founded in 1972 as an association of executive education program directors, UNICON has evolved from an informal common-interest group into an incorporated non-profit consortium committed to advancing the field of university- and business school-sponsored executive education. Membership is composed of nearly 100 educational institutions from the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa.

UNICON is committed to the principle that academically based executive education provides a combination of thought-leadership at the highest levels of rigor, masterful learning environments and practical application that cannot be replicated by non-academic providers.

The organization sponsors and conducts research studies that bring to the forefront this unique value of business-school-based executive education. It also provides industry/operational knowledge and networking opportunities for members through conferences, workshops, research, benchmarking, website, newsletters, job postings, discussion boards and forums and other activities.

The UNICON report, Going mobile in executive education: how mobile technologies are changing the executive learning landscape, was written by Dr. Carina Paine Schofield, Trudi West and Emily Taylor of Ashridge Business School.

Am I reading his actions right, my ex wants me back?

Question by Elaine: Am I reading his actions right, my ex wants me back?
Our break up was the worst one I have ever gone through in my life, I was so hurt and devastated by his actions preceding the break up that I stopped speaking to him for nearly two years even though we share a child. Not even two months into our separation, he had gotten married to the person he cheated on me with. I held my head up high and did what I needed to do for me to past the pain and I am happy now.
The problem that I am having with my ex is that even though he had moved on with his life he sort hoped that I would not and wanted to still be around me, calling and taking me out to lunch and even wanted be the other woman.
Unbeknownst to me that he was married and one month into his marriage, he was trying to sleep with me. I told him a few choice words via email and copied his new wife on it. Of course, she blamed me and claimed that no Christian values and that I was trying to destroy her family. I stopped talking to him completely! He has envolved my family and some now ex-friends to do his bidings and when I wouldn’t listened, the vacuous lies started.
This man has gone around telling people that I was harassing him and yet he has been the one calling and coming over my house, my family to get me to talk to him. Although we have a child together, he shows no interest in the child and I seemed to be the point of his obsession. He constenly drives by my house and even claimed that our child is not his.
On Tuesday, I had to meet with him to get some travel forms sign for our child, he showed up at the designated site rather than verbally greating me with hello, he rubbed his hand around my back and asked how I was! I say hi. Ten minutes later he came by asking me if I had the forms ready, I said yes, he went off again and reappeared 30 minutes later making some small talk about application fees and told me ” btw, I forgot to tell you, you nice” come to find out, the wife was arrested for hitting him and he is going through the ringer. What is his game now

Whatever is running through his head it’s definitely something I would be trying to keep as well away from as possible, he’s pretty much everything you want to avoid in a guy going by your descriptions. If he wants you back, it would probably be only for the physical side of things and not emotionally or personally.

All the best

What site can I go to where other Christians are, and we can have church?

Question by cjam: What site can I go to where other Christians are, and we can have church?
Its been a long time since I have been in church because I cant afford to travel anymore to a church which I really like. The people were kind and no one made themselves more important than I am. There is a church in the town I live in, but there are too many people who go there who makes me feel that I am wrong on everything. I know this isnt so, because I Like most people. I need a online church I think.

WHy did all those LIBERALs act so harsh and even evil …..?

Question by : WHy did all those LIBERALs act so harsh and even evil …..?
When the story broke about the Baptist men and mostly women who were trying to take the 33 children out of Haiti after the earthquake ” to protect them from the violence and dangers of a country devastated” and were detained by the quasi government: …. why did so called liberals began to claimed they were “trafficking in children” and called them every sort of evil name and layed on them every sort of evil MOTIVE , and tried to condemn all christians and specifically these people as trying to: “steal children”, …have they NOT come back to apologize?
I said when all those anti christians started posting their so called questions and began to distort and rabidly spew hatred (as LIBERALS!), against these good intentioned and sincerely sacrificing of their own safety, men and women, have we seen no response from the media or NEWS about this since they were all OVER IT when it first started and NOW NOT ONE WORD????? See this web site > http://www.christianpost.com/article/20100427/haitian-judge-clears-9-us-christians-of-all-charges/index.html
NINE of the TEN were cleared of ALL charges, and you would think that a so called open minded good hearted patriotic american liberal would rejoice in the justice, and that the news would shout the good new that americans had been found NOT GUILTY of trumped up charges????
The last person still has a single ridiculous phony charge of “arranging irregular travel” . Just the kind of ridiculous charges you saw in Russia and in many tin pot kind of third world governments to give them some form of legitimacy. I suspect that the charges will be dropped or at LEAST set to time served possibly to just expulsion, since this is more a face saving action for the government to prevent liability while lending some credence to their heavy handed actions.
WHY? Why don’t these morally superior NON christians liberal people actually say: “I am sorry”? for all the violence they did against christians here in yahoo answers and across the net? Why hasn’t the MEDIA made the effort to actually state a retraction of all their venomous attempts to smear christians? Isn’t that at least as important as the story was, now that these people have been vindicated and the GOOD NAME of them, Christianity, and the AMERICAN PEOPLE been shown?
It was so ugly to see post after post in the yahoo answers religion section by endless people who made this out to be the worst FACT of a clear cut case of “trafficking in children ” “stealing children”, “cults” and any other evil dispersion of these good peoples character. Suddenly they are silent…. I would hide in shame myself if i had acted like these people did in their apparent hatred of Christians and the Christian community, while hiding behind a cloak of self-righteous liberalism.
I meant to say that when these people started this tirade i told them that absolutly NOTHING would come of this and that its a completely trumped up charges of a nation in disarray, and so it has… i must be a prophet …lolol. I would lay dollars to donuts that not ONE person will actualy come to say they are sorry for the lies they told and that we will not see a single news report on TV from major outlets except maybe FOX news about this turn of events. What does this tell you? It tells me that some people are just not decent people and the Media is a liberal fortress of anti christian hate mongers.
The first three responses are classic examples of people not willing to face the fact that they were wrong. These answers are typical of the inability of some to see justly and act rightly.
WE are talking NINE people aquitted of ALL charges and there won’t be a “civil suit” that contradicts this.
What did Forrest Gump say…? Evil is as evil does??? … or something like that…lol. Pathetic response from you three .
OH, btw, this IS the catagory that the attacks were posted in and about CHRISTIANS. And this is a issue of religion so i would say this is NOT the wrong catagory.
Noone said the “children were returned” “supposeds” are not proofs and yes i am well aware oif the legal system … but are you? i did not say they did not plead guilty , i SAID they were AQUITED AS “NOT GUILTY”. AND NOT ONE OF YOU HAS ANSWERED THE QUESTION! they were wrong and need to apologize and the Media has NOT done anything to correct the facts or report on the results of the situation , typical both they and you all are just obsfucating things rather than admiting the wrong done by those abusive individuals in judging before the facts and condemning without the legal principle of “thier day in court”
typical poor and unspecific answers based in cycinicalism and a complete inability to grasp simple facts.
Gee…. a “chargable offense, … and DESERVES punishment” ! What hubris of you to be judge, jury and executioner. Seems the HAITIAN Courts would say you are wrong and possibly a liar since they DECIDED NO OFFENSE WAS COMMITTED! And you do not know but that the agreements between the people who children they were and these caring individuals are presented for the courts review.
LIes upon LIES it seems is the order of the day for those who want desperatly to hate others religions and beliefs instead of showing decency and justice.
VIzvids arguments a spurious and biased comment simply because the facts are easily check-able but NOT on a biased LIBERAL media source or web site. What a lame answer with NO actualy validity.

Q&A: Syria during Ramadan?

Question by turnip juice: Syria during Ramadan?
I will be travelling to Syria for a few weeks during the month of September. Other than fasting, is there anything else I should I know about Ramadan?

Will any tourists sites be closed? How difficult will it be to find a place to eat during the evening in Damascus? Does Ramadan apply to the Christian quarters in Damascus?

Thanks in advance.

Answer by ~rOah~
My brother went to Syria during Ramadan a couple of years ago, although he didn’t fast he was able to eat. Not everyone fasts in Ramadan even though majority do. I don’t think you will find it difficult because people are shopping for food for their futur.
Good Luck and enjoy your trip =)
