Sean Curley Aims to Help Humanist, Secular and Atheist Parents by Detailing Non-religious Parenting with New Book: ‘Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion’

Golden, CO (PRWEB) July 18, 2007

In his book Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion, Sean Curley, in conjunction with Lulu, discusses the ramifications of parenting without reliance on religion. He also details rites, rituals, and practices that can be used in a home regardless of religious affiliation.

Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion is a practical guide for parents, grand parents, educators and other child-care-givers who want to parent without depending on traditions, practices, and rituals of established religions.

Sean Curley wrote Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion because he believes in the value religion has provided to the family in the form of traditions and common practices. He is attempting to bring these same benefits to the Humanist household, regardless of religious belief. Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion is available for purchase at Lulu, Amazon, Borders, and Barnes & Noble.

“Parenting has always been difficult, but historically parents have had thousands of years of religious history, traditions and practices to use as a basis for their parenting. With the modern prevalence of the secular or Humanist household, this is no longer true and parents need a guide to help them understand the advantages of religion in parenting, but without reliance on religion.” said Sean Curley. “The book includes information on humanism, morality, spirituality, traditions, practices, moral issues, and has sections for teens and younger children.

How do I plan a Christian Singles Cruise?

Question by KoffeeKraze: How do I plan a Christian Singles Cruise?
I want to plan a Christian Singles Cruise and need help starting. I want to invite a few entertainers, host seminars and events while cruising. This will be open to Christian Singles all over the U.S. Please help.

Answer by ilivefortravel
go to kazree.rovia.com click on groups enter your info and your request and see what you can come up with there. Then you would probably just want to blog the heck out of the idea and see how many people you could get semi committed. You’ll probably have to pay the entertainers, seminar people, (some may just take the actual cruise as payment). Usually the cruise lines are pretty accommodating as far as providing a space for your events (such as a singles dance–they’ll allow you to reserve a bar or danceclub on the ship for the occasion) as long as you plan what it is and ask them for what you need. The travel specialists at that website above are really helpful and they are really good at getting good deals for these types of things too. I booked a family reunion type vacation on a cruise ship. Your situation sounds like it would be on a much larger scale, but you can do it, just ask for help. GOOD LUCK!!!

A Dream: Castle in Air turns into reality

A Dream: – Castle in the air turns into reality

“Sir, what’s in your mind after getting this honour Award, asked a television correspondent to Mr. So and So in a press conference.”

His reply…

As the saying goes, “You don’t need to pay for having colossal dreams.” Such as, I was living my life with myriad extensive dreams; which were explicitly castle in the air. I was born and reared up in a shanty town, and my father was the only bread winner in the family; because my mother had asthma, due to it she remains in the house. My father used to gather waste from the societies and dumped in the dump site; which was four kilometres away from the city. Before dumping the waste, my father used to extract the plastic bags and sell those bags for recycling.

Many of times, I mull over on those fateful yesteryears, which are bitter memories of my life. They are yet evident, a little tot is complaining his parents for food and good cloths in a shanty house; Tropical summer searing lives from the top to down and frosty wind confines lives in the winter. Screaming souls preserving handful grain in cats and dogs rain; destruction and chaos after the heavy rain still floats in my mind.

Nevertheless, despite limited amenities in the family and slum, I didn’t give up my dream of becoming elite and wealthy man in the society. In-order to get me to that position; I used to study till late night under the railway lights. Still I remember, it was foggy winter season and almost morning was about to break. A police man came up to me with rod in his hand and asked me, what I am doing here? Police man was mesmerized by the way I responded him.  Virtually, his eyes got moist and gently tapped my head and went away. He also wished me for bloomy future.

After few months of this, my parents were died in a train mishap. I was barely fourteen years old; when my parents left me alone in this perilous and selfish world. Nobody from my mother and father’s families gave me shelter in their house. Even I also left my home and went to another city by train. Unfortunately, I was caught in the train by the ticket checker and beaten out; because I was travelling without ticket. At last I was throw-out from the train on a local station. I didn’t bother the checker and my pain; and got up quickly and got into another compartment of the same train. I shut myself into a toilet and arrived into an unknown city. I didn’t know anyone in the city and also had nothing in hand to buy something to quench my hunger. However, I drank some water from the hand pump and came out from the railway station.

Without eating anything from the last two days, I walked out from platform for forever and searched for any work. No one in the city was ready to give any sort of work in the home or outfit to a stranger; whom they don’t know. Who am I and where does I comes from, nobody know it? There was no a single person in the city, who can recommend me for the work.  People were scared to give job to any unfamiliar person, due to previous terrorist attacked on the city.

However, the fire for the food in the stomach was extremely grave; as a result I was floored on the road. Several people walked aside and didn’t bother me. I began to blame God for the inattention of the people; whilst a man with grey hair white attire walked towards me and asked. What happened to you my dear, why are crying and rolling on the road… what’s bothering you? Flushed in anger, I answered him, don’t you see I have severe pain in my stomach. I didn’t eat anything from the last three days. I asked people for job but nobody hire me due to unfamiliarity. I am dying with hunger; even God of heaven has hardened His heart and abandoned me to die. The master piece of God’s creation (Human Being) has become selfish and God has also fixed Himself with them.

Don’t accuse God for your ugly condition, my dear, answered the old man. He is God the Father, how a genuine Father can disown his own child in his awful situations. Never, he can’t do this, impossible. Come on get up, come with me into my home, I will fix you food.

I was amazed to see, the old man was a retired army personnel and living alone in a very big bungalow. His entire family was killed in the previous terrorist attack and he was seriously injured too. Doctors could save his life only and other of his family members breathed their last breath in the operation theatre itself. Yet, there was no disappointment on his face but had a great hope to see all his family members at the day of the Lord.

While we were having food, both of us shared our past with each other. After a long tearful conversation, I came to know that we are travelling in same boat of life. Mr. Albert Franklin (Old Man) didn’t send me away from his house after feeding me well. Rather adopted me as his son in the family. My Christian journey started with Mr. Franklin.

I studied under leadership of lots of tutors at home and did complete my law study by corresponded. Meanwhile, I got intimate with Lord Jesus Christ. I accepted Him, the Lord and Savior of my life. Today, what I am, it all because of Lord Jesus Christ’s love that was active in Mr. Albert Franklin? God sent Mr. Albert into my life and let happen my dreams to come to realty. Every day, I go to Mr, Albert’s tomb and pray to God; to bestow the same grace and love into my life as well. So, I may also be a channel of His love and grace for many in this perilous and selfish world.  I would like to add this also, our dreams which are castle in the air; can turn into reality through the companionship with Lord Jesus Christ.

Thus, come into the concord of companionship with Lord Jesus Christ and you will see your dreams fulfilled. Don’t wait any more, open the doors of your hearts and invite Jesus Christ into your life. Enjoy the companionship of Lord Jesus Christ.

May the Lord bless you all!!!

Is it it possible to teach world history in a public school if you are majoring in World Religion?

Question by isellsanctuary: Is it it possible to teach world history in a public school if you are majoring in World Religion?
I am currently enrolled as a junior at George Mason University majoring in World Religions, and have worked simultaneously as a docent and curator for a museum to George Washington.

Though I have not majored in History, but another social science – is it still possible to be hired as a History professor in a public school, particularly a school in Northern Virginia?

Best answer:

Answer by locusfire
It would be difficult on two fronts. First, you wouldn’t be certified, which for that northern virginia area, would drop your salary by about $ 5,000, I think they pay around 36,000-37,000 a year for non-certified teachers.

Second, because you didn’t study the history classes, it would mean to ever be a certified teacher, you’d have to take more than just the education classes, but the actual history classes.

The problem is that none of this is ever decided on a case by case basis but as a big blanket, and you can know every little but have all the bases covered, or know a tremendous amount but your transcripts say the wrong things and it not be worth much.

Does this mean they won’t hire you? I’m not sure. You wouldn’t be on the top the list, but they need a lot of teachers though, but also consider that you’re not the only person who’s considering teaching with mixed credentials, it’s becoming more and more popular and that’s giving school more options.

New Company Formed to Produce Interactive Fun-to-Play Christian Games

Digital Praise Inc. to Encourage Positive Values Through Top-Quality Gaming Titles Without Violence, Sex, Hate or Horror

Fremont, CA (PRWEB) June 26, 2004

Christian entertainment takes a step forward today with the formal announcement of Digital Praise Inc., a new company formed to produce high-quality interactive Christian games. Digital Praise is committed to releasing fun, exciting game titles that promote virtues and family values like forgiveness, tolerance and kindness, rather than the violent and sexual behavior that is the mainstay of most popular computer games today. Privately held by company founders, Digital Praise is located in Fremont, CA.

Â?Digital Praise is founded on the principle that fun, exciting computer games donÂ?t need to be flooded with violence, sex, hate or images of horror,Â? said Tom Bean, president and CEO of Digital Praise. Â?Our goal is to produce top-quality gaming titles that promote positive values while providing hours of exciting game play that will keep players coming back for more.Â?

Digital Praise is actively involved in the development of titles for release under its own brand and for third parties. The company is currently working on a series of interactive games based on Focus on the Familys world-renowned Adventures in Odyssey® radio program. Digital Praise has secured the electronic rights for this popular radio series that has aired for 18 years and boasts over 1.2 million listeners each day. Digital Praise announced its agreement with Focus on the Family in a separate joint release today. The company expects to announce the first two Adventures in Odyssey computer game titles next week at the Christian Booksellers Association International 2004 convention. In addition, Digital Praise has completed Hamtaro: Wake Up Snoozer!, its first third-party development project for Riverdeep The Learning Company.

Digital Praise has assembled a high-powered team of computer gaming industry veterans who among them have released over 20 popular game titles including perennial favorites Carmen Sandiego, Reader Rabbit and Oregon Trail. CTO Peter Fokos, himself a 22-year veteran of the entertainment software industry with such industry giants as The Learning Company and Disney Interactive, said of the companyÂ?s engineering team, Â?WeÂ?ve pulled together a group of developers, producers, artists and audio engineers as fine as any IÂ?ve ever worked with. This is the kind of group that will keep producing award-winning titles and best sellers.Â?

Christian Games: Market Opportunity

An enormous appetite exists for Christian entertainment in various forms. The recent success of Christian music, books, movies, television and art is a testament to the importance of Christian content in all media. There is also strong growth in the U.S. entertainment software industryÂ? sales jumped 8% in 2003 to $ 7 billion1. Recognizing growth in both the Christian entertainment and the software entertainment markets, Digital Praise predicts healthy demand in the emerging interactive Christian games market.

Â?We see a tremendous opportunity in the interactive Christian games market, an industry estimated between $ 100 and $ 200 million in annual sales,Â? said Bill Bean, vice president of sales and marketing. Â?As long as new game titles are top qualityÂ?offering exciting game play and high production valueÂ?we believe that interactive Christian games will skyrocket in popularity much like Christian music did 15 years ago.Â?

Digital Praise is a pioneer in the emerging interactive Christian games industry, joining companies like Big Idea, NÂ?Lightning, and others in the effort to prove that violence, horror and hatred are not necessary components of exciting, fun game play.

Â?NÂ?Lightning products have received enormous praise from all parts of the world for their challenging play, innovative stories, and overall creative qualityÂ?proving that Christian titles can have you on the edge of your seat,Â? said Ralph Bagley, CEO of NÂ?Lightning Software Development, whose Christian action games have sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. He added, Â?Families, in increasing numbers, are saying no to entertainment products that undermine the values they consider essential. In the years to come, the current vanguard of Christian computer game publishers is certain to emerge as an important voice in the entertainment software industry.Â?

4 Design Commandments for a Religion Website

The company I work for designs websites for many different types of small businesses and nonprofit groups such as houses of worship.  Is there any better use of a website than for spreading the teachings of love, peace, harmony and faith in a Supreme Being throughout the modern world?   Probably, not.   At least, not from the point of view of anyone, who believes that we all need some love in our heart and spirituality in our lives to govern our actions among those we share the world with.

There is an interesting YouTube parody of Starbucks marketing itself like a church at http://healyourchurchwebsite.com.  The video suggests that houses of worship need to think more like corporate marketers do, as they try and attract new worshippers to the fold.  Reaching out to others has been changed by the Internet.  Most of us now view the world through a pair of digitally trained eyes.  Constant repetition of effective online messages, has groomed us to expect logically-placed calls to action on every website we visit.  In fact, we mentally grade website designs by their practical layout, easy navigation and rich content.

When we are not impressed with a particular website – any website – we leave it long before we ever complete a call to action.  We have little patience trying to figure out what a website owner needed to explain in a much more effective way, in the first place.  As a website visitor, it is not our job to do this. There are far too many competing websites that do a better job getting their information across to us.  We are more likely to follow through with them.

So what is expected from a religion website?  At very least, it must answer these basic four questions in order to find and hold its target audience:

1.      Who are worshippers?

2.      What do they believe?

3.      Where and when do they meet?

4.      Will outsiders be welcome there?

Who are the Worshippers?

Most religious websites feature a photo their house of worship – their building – as their home page attention-grabber.  Clergy and congregants are very proud of what they have built and expect that others will be equally impressed and moved to worship with them in the structure.

With all due respect, does a stone or wood frame building really stand for what a church, synagogue, temple or mosque is all about, spiritually?  Or, is it the clergy and worshippers, who make a place of worship divine?

When a place of worship is devastated by a natural disaster, the “flock” rarely misses a beat; meeting elsewhere until the time is right to return to the building of origin.  It matters little to them WHERE they meet.  It only seems to matter that they are gathered together and sharing their prayers with their Supreme Being.

The Rev. Heather McCance of the Church of St. Andrew, Scarborough and regional dean of Scarborough Deanery in the Diocese of Toronto, has written a thoughtful essay on God and Social Media.   In her essay, she explains that “Websites, or at least the vast majority of church websites, are of the stuff of Web 1.0; we put information on the Internet, a person goes and finds it.”

What exactly does Rev. McCance believe people looking for a religion website should find?  People are simply looking to find God.

“We have learned to say that it is not that the church has a mission; it is that God has a mission, and invites the church to come alongside,” explains McCance.

So, it is the worshippers, themselves, that make a house of worship what it is. It should the worshippers, who are prominently displayed on the homepage of a religion website.  Future congregants are most interested in seeing and identifying with the people they will meet, greet and celebrate their faith with.

What Do They Believe?

Rev. McCance clearly understands the role that God plays in Social Media, which includes websites.  She believes that “God is on Facebook. God tweets. God posts videos on YouTube. And God most surely uses whatever tools human beings come up with to reach out to this world with love and compassion, with a prophetic call to justice, with gospel.”  It is very comforting to know that God stands before the digital portal (Websites) welcoming all people to his many houses of worship.  Still, each religion website must immediately inform unique visitors what is the particular brand of faith being practiced by those behind a URL.  Is it a Christian denomination; some form of Judaism, Islam, Hindu, Buddhist or something else?   Is it a good fit with the religious beliefs of the website visitor?

Where and when do they meet?

If God is throughout Social Media, as Rev. McCance purports, he must also be guiding us with our GPS units.  Still, we all need to take some level of responsibility to find our way to his presence.  We require a precise address as well as the date and time that others will also be arriving to meet him.  A well designed religion website will need to include this information.  The web designer must be aware that not everyone owns a GPS and may require written directions to the house of worship.

Will outsiders be welcome there?

We all know that God welcomes everyone to pray, but not all houses of worship have the same set of rules.  For example, non-Jews are always welcome to attend services in a synagogue, so long as they behave as proper guests. Proselytizing and “witnessing” to the congregation are not proper guest behavior.  Would anyone walk into a stranger’s home and criticize the decor? But, synagogues always welcome non-Jews who come to synagogue out of genuine curiosity, interest in the service or simply to join a friend in celebration of a Jewish event.

In Orthodox synagogues, there is a separate section where the women sit. This may be on an upper floor balcony, or in the back of the room, or on the side of the room, separated from the men’s section by a wall or curtain called a mechitzah. Men are not permitted to pray in the presence of women, because they are supposed to have their minds on their prayers, not on pretty girls.

It is important to inform all parties of any worship attendance rules they need to be aware of in the website.

What other Information is commonly found?

Most religion websites include some or all of the following features: a Photo Gallery to showcase its congregants, the particular house of worship, its prayer services and its location. There may also be the desire to present Online Store capabilities, especially if they are offering religious items for purchase.

Places of worship may also wish to engage visitors through a Guestbook, Blog, Newsletters, a Mailing List, a “share” button and – very often – a Make a Donation form.

It is very good that God is onboard with websites and Social Media, as Rev. McCance seems to believe.  Therefore, it is important to make him proud of its use attracting those who may wish to worship with others just like themselves.
