Christian game reviews for MMORPG?

Question by Ginny R: Christian game reviews for MMORPG?
I’m looking for a website that has reviews for MMORPGs from a Christian perspective. Not Christian-based MMORPGs, but for regular mmorpgs like Ragnarok, Guild Wars.

Anyone know any site like that?

Seems like almost every mmorpgs out there has some form of gods/godesses. Some even force you to pledge loyalty to these deities in order to advance in the game. I’m looking for an mmorpg that doesn’t have any of these.
For those of you who don’t believe me, here’s a sample of a game that forces you to pledge loyalty to a deity:

Elf online – http://elf.happymmo.com/

You can roam around in the land up to level 10, but if you want to have any skill at all beyond that, you have to pledge to some goddess.

And for the record, maybe most people are comfortable with the idea of bowing down before a fake deity. But I’m not. I’ve read enough from the Old Testament to know what happened to all those people who worshipped false deities, sincere or not.

Did You Inherit Your Religion?

world religion
by rowanf

The vast majority of people in the world automatically and unquestioningly inherit their religion from their parents. For something as important as religion, why are we so reluctant to shop around?

One Saturday morning I was sipping my coffee and reading the newspaper when the doorbell rang. This was an unusual occurrence as we lived in a somewhat isolated log cabin in the mountains outside Denver. At the door stood two attractive college-age girls who wanted to talk to me about becoming a Jehovah’s Witness.

Normally I would politely say, “No thanks” and return to my paper, but that morning I decided to engage with them. After hearing their initial pitch, I asked one of them, “Are your parents Jehovah’s Witnesses?”

”Our whole family is,” she replied.

”Do you think religion is an important thing for people to have in their lives?”

”Very,” she replied, and I agreed.

”How many other religions have you studied and investigated?”

”None.”

”Is a car an important thing in your life?” I asked.

”Well, yes, but not as important as religion.”

Again I agreed. “What kind of car do you drive?”

”A Toyota.”

”Is that what your parents drive?”

”No.”

”Why not?” I inquired.

”Because I like Toyotas better.” She was starting to get impatient but politely continued to humor me.

”How do you know?”

”Because I like the way my Toyota looks and drives, plus it was inexpensive and gets good gas mileage.”

I nodded toward my Toyota sitting in the driveway and agreed. “How did you know that about your car when you bought it?”

”I test drove different cars and talked to my friends about their cars.” she said, increasingly exasperated.

”So you checked out lots of different cars before deciding on your Toyota,” I gently summarized, “but your religion, which is much more important, you inherited from your parents without knowing anything about the alternatives?”

”Yeah,” she replied rather sheepishly, catching my drift.

”I’ll tell you what,” I said. “Spend the next five years investigating and the other great religions of the world and then if you still want to talk to me about becoming a Jehovah’s Witness, we’ll talk.”

The girls, realizing they had a hopeless case on their hands, thanked me for my time and left.

The vast majority of people worldwide inherit their religion-one of the most important things in their lives-unquestioningly from their parents, without ever investigating the alternatives. Many arrogantly believe that their religion is the only way to salvation and that the vast majority who don’t share their beliefs will go to hell. Some believe that other religions are heresy, and a few will even fight and die in the name of their religion.

However, most people are incurious about religion and simply want to be told what to believe without personal investigation. Such investigation is, after all, a huge task which most people are not cut out for. This is OK; there is nothing wrong with inheriting the religion of our parents. This is why the Dalai Lama encourages people to follow the religion of the culture in which they were raised, as opposed to proselytizing Buddhism.

It seems that those who do inherit their religion would acknowledge their limited understanding of other religions and adopt a posture of tolerance, not dogmatism, toward them. Sadly, it seems that the less one knows about other religions, the more likely s/he is to be intolerant of it, fueling the fires of fundamentalism. Yet Islam has just as much meaning and validity for those in the Middle East, and Hinduism has just as much meaning and validity for those in India, as Christianity does for those in the West.

Did you inherit your religion?

How to Use Online Christian Dating Safely

Are you single and a committed Christian? Are you facing difficulties meeting other singles with similar values as yours? Have you almost given up hope in finding your Mr or Ms perfect who has the same beliefs as you? Are you over having to beat off lustful dates who do not share your thoughts on abstaining from pre-marital sex? Do you find it immensely draining having to justify your morals and beliefs to all your dates?

Do you sometimes feel that all the other people who share your views are taken or not in your age bracket? Sometimes you can feel quite alone in a world of non Christians who have few morals and values similar to yourself? Perhaps it is time to think about Christian dating sites.

Christian dating sites have been created solely to cater for single people like you who have firm religious values and beliefs. Not only do these sites provide Christian online dating services, but they offer all sorts of practical advice and solutions to problems associated with Christian dating. If you feel you are being coerced into physical activities you are uncomfortable with, or are feeling tempted, you can receive advice and teachings to keep you on your chosen path.

Others who have felt lonely or simply misunderstood have benefited greatly from online Christian dating networks offering invaluable information and communication. Being able to chat with other single Christians experiencing exactly the same problems that you do can be hugely reassuring and great for keeping your strong beliefs in place.

There are numerous Christian dating services for you to choose from. It is probably a great idea to check out a few first before you join one. After looking at a few you may well discover that there is one site that has more members and better services where you live, or is better suited to your particular denomination.

Superior Christian dating websites will provide plenty of support and services for Christian dating. We both know that we feel better about online dating if there’s support for your own values and beliefs. Does the website allow you to ask questions anonymously that you may be too embarrassed to ask members of your own Church community or peers? It would be a sad error not to know that you can resolve most questions to any dating issues and talking to with people who have experience with your dating issues.

You don’t have to be young to be using the Christian dating networks, just sincere. Life circumstances may have you outside the usual single age group and this can make it even more difficult to find a husband or wife. However with Christian dating sites it will be easier for you to find someone in the appropriate age group for yourself.

Christian dating services are also beneficial for those who may have relocated to a new town and don’t know anyone. Or perhaps your particular place of worship is a little short on singles? It could be that where you liver there are just aren’t any available Christians who interest you? Specialized online Christian dating is available. You just need to know which ones to identify as being valuable and reliable.

Many people now work from home and this can also make it increasingly difficult to socialize and to meet potential spouses. Additionally, for those who do work with others, your fellow work mates may not share your views on dating and Christianity.

Many Christian dating networks are also great for meeting other like minded individuals who share your outlooks on life. You may just be wanting to increase your circle of friends and acquaintances who have similar beliefs as yourself. In today’s world it can be difficult to meet other people who stand by their religious values.

Christian dating sites allow you to meet more Christian singles than you are going to meet in day to day life yourself. Using these dating sites sensibly can allow you to meet your husband or wife in ages and regions that you prefer. Online Christian dating can be the perfect solution for many lonely singles who are isolated socially or regionally, or who perhaps are looking for a husband or wife later in life. Both the Internet and Christianity are universal, why not combine two powerful forces?

Author Billy Baker has provided some reviews on Christian dating sites!”. If you’re seeking more information on Christian dating, try this article on Christian dating.

‘commonsense, Compassion and Tolerance’: Three Magic Words for a Better World

It usually takes a disaster to bring people together at lightening speed. However unfortunate may these situations be, commonsense takes over and one gets to see the goodness in human beings, irrespective of who they are or where they come from – at least one hopes that commonsense prevail. This collective behaviour could be dictated by religion, politics, terrorism, nationality, culture or death of a famous person. Most people believe in God or a divine power and one should not forget the few who believe in nothing, or so they have us believe. It’s almost as if people are just waiting for something to happen so that they can gear into action.  Preventive measures are not given the importance that they deserve, which culminate in all kinds of disasters all over the world.

Having a leader, be it the head of a State, family, organization, university or a religious group, has its advantages and disadvantages. A leader who believes in honesty and integrity and who has the ability to implement these principles should have no difficulty in guiding his or her people in the right path, but the opposite will have devastating consequences. We have seen examples of these in politics, religion and families. The recent wars could have been avoided only if the leaders had taken the right steps and informed the people in their own countries. The dictatorial attitude and the self-righteous beliefs did not help the countries they were ‘supposedly’ trying to help. The war in Iraq is a great example of this and sadly the situation is far worse now. Innocent people are still dying even as the rest of the world is talking about the Iraqi invasion that started five years ago. When one learns to behave with restrain or use common sense, situations could be avoided or won

over without killing innocent people.

When political leaders project religion in the forefront and recognise fellow beings only as Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians or any other religion, it spells disaster. The common bo

nd is forgotten and fanaticism wins over commonsense and intelligence; people behave like robots controlled by a remote evil power, murdering each other because the other does not belong to the same religion or sector. All one needs is a little compassion and understanding to avoid situations that lead to mass murders and destruction of beautiful cities and ancient cultures.

If this is what religion does to human beings, why does one need religion and places of worship? One needs places of worship with the knowledge that each religion should respect each other and accept the principles and limitations of each. People should be allowed to follow the religion of their choice without being persecuted. Unless we overcome this fear of those whose faith is different from our own, we cannot build a free, just, and caring world – we need to do it individually and collectively without waiting for governments to take the lead.

Don?T Get Lost In Christianity And Religion, Your Purpose And Knowledge Is Much Greater

I have come to a conclusion; there is a difference between religion and spirituality. People that are religious say that they are spiritual. Many times the words are thrown about interchangeably.  However, there is a difference. Religion is an idealized set of beliefs. With religion everyone has to ascribe to those beliefs or they are not a part of that religion. Spirituality is personal with universal concepts, Universal in that all can ascribe to those beliefs and they work without impartiality to race or condition. Religion is objective, meaning others agree to dogma and rules. Spirituality is subjective; it is subject to the internal beliefs, moods and emotions of the individual.

Jesus was teaching spiritual principles, but man for its own reasons made Christianity about Jesus rather than what he was attempting to teach. Jesus was attempting to teach us to connect to a universal consciousness not some all powerful being that watched over us like a guard dog ready to bite us and punish us when we did some wrong determined by man. Jesus teachings were to lead man into discovering his greater existence in the universe. Man unfortunately for centuries have believed that the world we live in is the entire universe. Man has believed what we experience with our five senses is all there is to the universe. Even though there is much evidence to the contrary, man persists in his limited view of his existence. Religion is an aid in the persistence of limiting thought.

In the NIV bible, John 4:24 Jesus states, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

This is one of the scriptures that Jesus makes a statement that is meant to be universal in nature. Man has now defined what a worshiper is and the consequences when he does not fit the definition. Did Jesus intend his teaching to separate man or to unite? Religion says we all have to fit a definition of worshiper. Jesus had principles that taught us HOW to worship.

John 7:16 Jesus answered, “my teaching in not my own. It comes from him who sent me. If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.”

This scripture is spoken figuratively by Jesus. He says …HIM who sent me. Can God be a person, or did Jesus mean a universal force? What is God’s will and how do you choose it? Who decides your choice? Who decides where his teachings come from? Religion believes they have answered those questions and they have answered them for anyone that believes in the ascribed dogma. Jesus was giving us formulas to find out for ourselves. How does one know that the teachings of Jesus come from God? When they search for the meaning for themselves. When that person goes inside and starts to ask the hard questions.

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Religion made this scripture and statement about the man. Figuratively Jesus was saying that he can teach us how to recognize our eternal selves. If we follow his TEACHINGS he can give us the knowledge.

One of the most destructive verses to mankind and his universality is John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

This one verse man has taken literally from Jesus. He meant that through his teachings man would be enlightened. Religion made it about THE MAN Jesus rather than about the universal enlightenment of man. Religion has separated mankind from its understanding of his place in the universe for thousands of years. We have within us a vast reservoir of knowledge. We have to be brave enough to step outside the accepted NORMS of religion to discover that knowledge. That is what the teachings of Jesus was about. Not the dogmatic rants of self proclaimed disciples. Does a teacher TELL you how to think? Or is a teacher to give you a foundation on which to build?

It is time for us to wake up. We have gotten lost in religion. Our purpose is much greater and our knowledge more vast than any religious thought will allow us to perceive. Religion controls through fear and misinformation, giving us concepts of a vengeful God and hell. We should open our minds to the eternal wisdom of our souls. Not to the finite rants of preachers. We all have infinite abilities that Jesus alluded to in the scripture. You have to be brave enough to investigate for yourself and strong enough to stand up to thousands of years of ignorance. Spirituality is personal and liberating. Religion is bastion of fearful and confining thought.

 Are you a brave soul?

Christians: What do you think of these Christian video game ideas?

Question by Jason G.: Christians: What do you think of these Christian video game ideas?
I know there aren’t that many good Christian games out there, so here are some of my ideas I’d like to share:

1. Two guys are mission leaders, running an Christian outreach program for kids. A crime boss hears of them and sets his men to go capture the kids form the outreach program- he sees the mission leaders as a threat and wants to get rid of them. The two mission leaders set out to rescue them, and along the way they meet other Christian kids who tip them off to where the kids are being held and give them speical items along thew way to use in their fight-they have to fight the mini bosses and rescue kids being held hostage and fight the Crime boss at the end.

2. A Christian sim in which you have to build as many Christian churches as you can, all the while facing oppostion form people trying to stop you.

3. A Christian war game in which you have to take over enemy terrority and convert as many people to Christianity as possbile.

4. Another game in which you simply have to give out as many Christian tracts as possible.

Which of these ideas do you like the best?
