Q&A: Syria during Ramadan?

Question by turnip juice: Syria during Ramadan?
I will be travelling to Syria for a few weeks during the month of September. Other than fasting, is there anything else I should I know about Ramadan?

Will any tourists sites be closed? How difficult will it be to find a place to eat during the evening in Damascus? Does Ramadan apply to the Christian quarters in Damascus?

Thanks in advance.

My brother went to Syria during Ramadan a couple of years ago, although he didn’t fast he was able to eat. Not everyone fasts in Ramadan even though majority do. I don’t think you will find it difficult because people are shopping for food for their futur.
Good Luck and enjoy your trip =)

I’ve been to Syria but not during Ramadan, i don’t think there are any restrictions applied to tourists, you can enjoy whatever you want there at any time, so no worry, but you know you have to show respect to Muslims feelings there, i mean eating in public during the day in Ramadan, that’s it.

    have a nice time!

Whether you travel to Syria or any other Muslim country it is ordained by law to observe sanctity of the month of Ramadan by not eating at public places and doing things unbecoming of good conduct in public or private. Tourists sites are not closed only the timings are altered. Christian quarters is also a part of Damascus and therefore any flouting of the law of the country is likely to attract penal provisions.
