Sean Curley Aims to Help Humanist, Secular and Atheist Parents by Detailing Non-religious Parenting with New Book: ‘Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion’

Golden, CO (PRWEB) July 18, 2007

In his book Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion, Sean Curley, in conjunction with Lulu, discusses the ramifications of parenting without reliance on religion. He also details rites, rituals, and practices that can be used in a home regardless of religious affiliation.

Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion is a practical guide for parents, grand parents, educators and other child-care-givers who want to parent without depending on traditions, practices, and rituals of established religions.

Sean Curley wrote Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion because he believes in the value religion has provided to the family in the form of traditions and common practices. He is attempting to bring these same benefits to the Humanist household, regardless of religious belief. Humanism for Parents – Parenting without Religion is available for purchase at Lulu, Amazon, Borders, and Barnes & Noble.

“Parenting has always been difficult, but historically parents have had thousands of years of religious history, traditions and practices to use as a basis for their parenting. With the modern prevalence of the secular or Humanist household, this is no longer true and parents need a guide to help them understand the advantages of religion in parenting, but without reliance on religion.” said Sean Curley. “The book includes information on humanism, morality, spirituality, traditions, practices, moral issues, and has sections for teens and younger children.

Is it it possible to teach world history in a public school if you are majoring in World Religion?

Question by isellsanctuary: Is it it possible to teach world history in a public school if you are majoring in World Religion?
I am currently enrolled as a junior at George Mason University majoring in World Religions, and have worked simultaneously as a docent and curator for a museum to George Washington.

Though I have not majored in History, but another social science – is it still possible to be hired as a History professor in a public school, particularly a school in Northern Virginia?

Best answer:

Answer by locusfire
It would be difficult on two fronts. First, you wouldn’t be certified, which for that northern virginia area, would drop your salary by about $ 5,000, I think they pay around 36,000-37,000 a year for non-certified teachers.

Second, because you didn’t study the history classes, it would mean to ever be a certified teacher, you’d have to take more than just the education classes, but the actual history classes.

The problem is that none of this is ever decided on a case by case basis but as a big blanket, and you can know every little but have all the bases covered, or know a tremendous amount but your transcripts say the wrong things and it not be worth much.

Does this mean they won’t hire you? I’m not sure. You wouldn’t be on the top the list, but they need a lot of teachers though, but also consider that you’re not the only person who’s considering teaching with mixed credentials, it’s becoming more and more popular and that’s giving school more options.

4 Design Commandments for a Religion Website

The company I work for designs websites for many different types of small businesses and nonprofit groups such as houses of worship.  Is there any better use of a website than for spreading the teachings of love, peace, harmony and faith in a Supreme Being throughout the modern world?   Probably, not.   At least, not from the point of view of anyone, who believes that we all need some love in our heart and spirituality in our lives to govern our actions among those we share the world with.

There is an interesting YouTube parody of Starbucks marketing itself like a church at http://healyourchurchwebsite.com.  The video suggests that houses of worship need to think more like corporate marketers do, as they try and attract new worshippers to the fold.  Reaching out to others has been changed by the Internet.  Most of us now view the world through a pair of digitally trained eyes.  Constant repetition of effective online messages, has groomed us to expect logically-placed calls to action on every website we visit.  In fact, we mentally grade website designs by their practical layout, easy navigation and rich content.

When we are not impressed with a particular website – any website – we leave it long before we ever complete a call to action.  We have little patience trying to figure out what a website owner needed to explain in a much more effective way, in the first place.  As a website visitor, it is not our job to do this. There are far too many competing websites that do a better job getting their information across to us.  We are more likely to follow through with them.

So what is expected from a religion website?  At very least, it must answer these basic four questions in order to find and hold its target audience:

1.      Who are worshippers?

2.      What do they believe?

3.      Where and when do they meet?

4.      Will outsiders be welcome there?

Who are the Worshippers?

Most religious websites feature a photo their house of worship – their building – as their home page attention-grabber.  Clergy and congregants are very proud of what they have built and expect that others will be equally impressed and moved to worship with them in the structure.

With all due respect, does a stone or wood frame building really stand for what a church, synagogue, temple or mosque is all about, spiritually?  Or, is it the clergy and worshippers, who make a place of worship divine?

When a place of worship is devastated by a natural disaster, the “flock” rarely misses a beat; meeting elsewhere until the time is right to return to the building of origin.  It matters little to them WHERE they meet.  It only seems to matter that they are gathered together and sharing their prayers with their Supreme Being.

The Rev. Heather McCance of the Church of St. Andrew, Scarborough and regional dean of Scarborough Deanery in the Diocese of Toronto, has written a thoughtful essay on God and Social Media.   In her essay, she explains that “Websites, or at least the vast majority of church websites, are of the stuff of Web 1.0; we put information on the Internet, a person goes and finds it.”

What exactly does Rev. McCance believe people looking for a religion website should find?  People are simply looking to find God.

“We have learned to say that it is not that the church has a mission; it is that God has a mission, and invites the church to come alongside,” explains McCance.

So, it is the worshippers, themselves, that make a house of worship what it is. It should the worshippers, who are prominently displayed on the homepage of a religion website.  Future congregants are most interested in seeing and identifying with the people they will meet, greet and celebrate their faith with.

What Do They Believe?

Rev. McCance clearly understands the role that God plays in Social Media, which includes websites.  She believes that “God is on Facebook. God tweets. God posts videos on YouTube. And God most surely uses whatever tools human beings come up with to reach out to this world with love and compassion, with a prophetic call to justice, with gospel.”  It is very comforting to know that God stands before the digital portal (Websites) welcoming all people to his many houses of worship.  Still, each religion website must immediately inform unique visitors what is the particular brand of faith being practiced by those behind a URL.  Is it a Christian denomination; some form of Judaism, Islam, Hindu, Buddhist or something else?   Is it a good fit with the religious beliefs of the website visitor?

Where and when do they meet?

If God is throughout Social Media, as Rev. McCance purports, he must also be guiding us with our GPS units.  Still, we all need to take some level of responsibility to find our way to his presence.  We require a precise address as well as the date and time that others will also be arriving to meet him.  A well designed religion website will need to include this information.  The web designer must be aware that not everyone owns a GPS and may require written directions to the house of worship.

Will outsiders be welcome there?

We all know that God welcomes everyone to pray, but not all houses of worship have the same set of rules.  For example, non-Jews are always welcome to attend services in a synagogue, so long as they behave as proper guests. Proselytizing and “witnessing” to the congregation are not proper guest behavior.  Would anyone walk into a stranger’s home and criticize the decor? But, synagogues always welcome non-Jews who come to synagogue out of genuine curiosity, interest in the service or simply to join a friend in celebration of a Jewish event.

In Orthodox synagogues, there is a separate section where the women sit. This may be on an upper floor balcony, or in the back of the room, or on the side of the room, separated from the men’s section by a wall or curtain called a mechitzah. Men are not permitted to pray in the presence of women, because they are supposed to have their minds on their prayers, not on pretty girls.

It is important to inform all parties of any worship attendance rules they need to be aware of in the website.

What other Information is commonly found?

Most religion websites include some or all of the following features: a Photo Gallery to showcase its congregants, the particular house of worship, its prayer services and its location. There may also be the desire to present Online Store capabilities, especially if they are offering religious items for purchase.

Places of worship may also wish to engage visitors through a Guestbook, Blog, Newsletters, a Mailing List, a “share” button and – very often – a Make a Donation form.

It is very good that God is onboard with websites and Social Media, as Rev. McCance seems to believe.  Therefore, it is important to make him proud of its use attracting those who may wish to worship with others just like themselves.

Is Christianity just another world religion?

world religion
by rowanf

Question by God’s Canvas: Is Christianity just another world religion?
Can it be classified as a religion? or how do you classify it?

Where’s the power in the life of the believer? Do other world “religions” have the same power?

What draws you to Christ?

Best answer:

Answer by Jimmy
I see it more as a cult – but yes, its just another world religion. What else could it be?

Give your answer to this question below!

Some nuts think religion is useless: God is non-existence! But it is the only explanation for your being!

Some nuts think religion is useless: God is non-existence! But it is the only explanation for your being!

Some nuts think that religion is useless and bad. They proclaim that God does not exist and He is the invention of humans of a Big Someone. No proof for God and no one can see God, therefore, for such imbeciles, God does not exist.

But these confirmed imbeciles forget that without religion there is no other explanation for our life and our death, our lifecycle, for the purpose of human being, for good and evil. There is no other explanation for living and suffering, for living and rejoicing, for desperation and hope.

Without religion how can we have a moral code in accordance with the nature of human being, in accordance with what the creator of man has designed and prescribed for him? How can we understand the object of being, growing, ageing and dying? How can we comprehend our task and modulate our lives accordingly?

But religion is only an invitation for man. It is only an admonition for the human race. It is only a path indicator. Religion leaves for man the ultimate choice of belief and disbelief. It gives all dignity and value as well as freedom of will to man to decide for himself, to choose between the path of God or any other path, the devil for example.

Religion explains to mankind the meaning of their existence, it invites them to believe in God and do good with the consequences of a reckoning in another life where all shall be held responsible for their beliefs, or disbelief, for their good and evil. It tells humans that the power that has put their atoms together can redo it again, at pleasure.

It tells us of the purpose of God for creating humans and how He would try and test them. It tells us about the mystery of our existence and the existence of the universe, our role and our end. It tells us of who has created the universe and created all life manifestations that surrounds us.

It informs us of the good path and the evil one to follow. It tells us how to avoid the evil and bad action and how to perform the good one. It is the only way to avoid evil and do good.

But such an ignorant imbecile does rejects religion for religion was taken as a pretext for crime, murder and all sins, under the Christians, Inquisitions, Crusades. Christians fighting one another in Ireland. Muslims are accused with terrorism and killings.

Such an imbecile cites the cases of the 9/11 and the Bali suicide bombing of a discotheque killing Australian citizens and other westerners.

The accusation is badly taken and is a false accusation directed against religion. No religion teaches hatred and teaches crime and killing.

But being ignorant of religion and religious texts, such idiots assume that religion prescribes such crimes. While religion denies humans committing any crimes, of murder or theft.

The Law prescribes Ten Golden Commandments exactly to avoid any evil doing and promoting what is good. The Gospel is an invitation to all mankind to do good and shun evil. The Qur’anic text is but an admonition to mankind to do good and eschew evil with the consequences awaiting the sinners.

God, is the only deterrent factor in the life of man to do good and avoid evil. If God is not there then man does what he wants. No moral codes, no laws of conduct, no deterrents, and everyone is free to do what he likes, at pleasure.

It is exactly because of this there so many belief systems and so many deities and so many paths to sin and do wrong, so many paths to take and so many deities to worship. Man is given the mind and the freedom to choose for himself and then he shall be held to account for his, or her, own deeds. He is given a short and transitory lifetime and then his return to the creator that has put his atoms together.

If there is no God then every human being is free to kill, murder, massacre, steal and lead his life according to his animal drives. Throughout history we have ample examples of such criminality.

Look at what Napoleon has does of humanity offering sacrifices at the altar of his personal glory, Caligula, Nero, Alexander the Great before them, Hitler, Mussolini, Paul Pot, Stalin, Mao, in our time, only last century, have done to humanity for they were disbelievers atheists, like those imbeciles who are against religion and deny God, they are responsible for the massacre of millions and criminality against humanity. Look at Ben laden what he has done of criminal acts against humanity, and his team of hard and professional religious mafia sowing terror in the world.

But religion is not responsible but those who deny religion and deny God that are responsible. The crusades in the Dark Ages and terrorist acts in our time, are performed by psychopath and distorted criminals that identify themselves with religion, whether Islam, Christianity of Judaism.

Humans take anything as a pretext for their evil doing, to justify massacre, crime, murder and destruction. Humans take any pretext to justify their dominance, power and control over others, individuals or states and people suffer always at their hands.

Such arrogant and ignorant idiots who reject religion and disbelieve in God have no idea of why they are there and cannot possibly explain there own existence except in terms of the absurd and the inutile.

How would such imbeciles, like Hawking  and Darwin, explain their own being and the existence of the universe if there is no God to ordain things?

But man is an ungrateful bastard to his own creator!

Your religion may be good for you

                   Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.

There are so many religions in this world and if we go deep we shall find so many sub religions and we shall notice that there are deras, asharams and mathhs which are breeding so many new sub religions.  But one thing is very good in all the religions and sub religions that those all are giving us good advice and no religion is misleading us.  We must note that though all the religions had been taking birth at different places and at different times, with different names, yet all the religions are giving us the same guidance and no religion is misleading us.  All the religions are telling us that there is one God, all preach the truth and all say that we all have been sent by God and therefore, we all belong to one family and none is stranger on this earth.  All the religions are directing us to remain peaceful and believe in non-violence .  No religion is giving us directions that we should interfere in the religions of others and none is telling us that we should change religion of others.  All the religions say that we should remain peaceful and must love each other and go ahead and trace out what God has given to us in shape of His blessings.

So we should be tolerant to all religions and we should never discriminate with others simply because they belong to another religion which is different from our own religion.  This type of actions are sins and even God shall not give us pardon. Therefore, we must try to learn from religious books the principles of all the religions and if we do it, we shall find that all the religions are giving the same types of guide lines to us and if we study all the religions, we shall become secular and we shall start loving all the religions and when we are young, we must try to read all the basic books of each religion and must avoid to become a fundamentalist.

Why don’t we destroy all current religions and create a new One World Religion with the help of the spirits?

Question by Guy: Why don’t we destroy all current religions and create a new One World Religion with the help of the spirits?
Why don’t we destroy all current religions on Earth and wait for the God(s) and spirits that really exist to come and help us to create a One World Religion that would start again fresh?
That would stop religious wars and conflict between religion and science

What Is The Difference Between The Perception Of God Religion And Spirituality

The human mind does not want to experience God, but to catch it by becoming a specialist in religion and spirituality. All believers of religion and spirituality are because God is one. However, the perception of God’s name, logo and technology differ according to the religion of faith and understanding of God.

All religious and spiritual people claim it is the perception of God. But true God can not be seen, it is out of our language. According to the transformation state of mind, it is an expression of our emotions.  The most common meaning of spirituality is the state, quality, manner, or spiritual being. Spiritual means relating to God or having the nature of spirits. The most common sense of religion is a set of beliefs, values and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader. Having or showing belief in and reverence for God.

“Christian” sees and believes in Jesus Christ (God) and asks the most spiritual. “Hindus” sees and believes in RAM (as God) and spiritual needs. “Muslim” perceives and believes in Allah (God) and believes that they are spiritual All our observing and showing the reflection of the inner self, by invoking the conscience — a subtle house of nature for all

None of the follower of the religion and spirituality has seen the Spirit, God, and agrees to God is one. Religious people can be the Christen religion, Muslim or Hindu. They claim that the perception of God for their religion is true and best book and according to their religion. Proponents of spirituality, without exception, see religion books of all religions are love letters to God from their lords, who have experienced the spirituality of unconditional love.

All religions are tools that help withdraw from attachments, enmity and fear of many things. All religions are tools a tool to purify the mind by redemption of thoughts of selfishness through prayer. Religious leaders and places of worship and religious books are tools of the focus of consciousness to free himself from his thoughts of many accessories, hostility and fear of many things in the world. This gives relaxation to mind based on devotion and trust invoked in the consciousness.

Spirituality is diving deep into the field within itself without being tied to a spiritual leader or a book of religion. Proponents of spirituality, without exception, are free of any ceremony of the church, mosque or temple.  Followers of spirituality depend on meditation and there are many ways of meditation.

Lords of all religions who have lived spirituality – Christen, Moslems and Hindus, etc. are not religious but spiritual. Their authors and supporters of their preaching and religious believers were of specific religion with rituals specifically.

A researcher from any religion can be spiritual without being religious. But to be truly spiritual is to express unconditional love to all, regardless of religion. Religion is to focus on specific beliefs such as Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. Spirituality is usually focused on itself, the subtle nature or God, which is one for all. Religion is thought to God our knowledge learned from our parents, spiritual leaders and civilization. Spirituality comes from within you is your sense of the unity of God by invoking the conscience of oneself. Religion is the object of your senses and can be discussed with the wisdom of thought. Spirituality is the subject beyond your senses and wisdom of the thought and individual relationships with your inner self and God. You learn the religion but spirituality is an object of meditation in serenity.

Religion is a guide to follow the race to reach God. Spirituality is an experience of God by invoking self-awareness beyond your inner wisdom of thought and language. .

. Many believe that God is by faith and continue the search terms with many rituals and sacred texts of the faith of past centuries and before any conclusion. The ceremony and faith of the scriptures of the religion and spirituality continue to change perceptions, but selfishness is the same.

Some people perceive to consider that there is a God or supernatural being who did not look natural and is a supernatural power is somewhere in the inner chamber of the heart, and it is beyond the reach of their service. They get rid of religious ceremony of faith are able to identify with his inner self. They differ from religious people, but still not to give up his selfishness. They still feel it through selfishness and see God in his humanity. They continue to fear God and do well with morale.

Few are prepared to establish relations with his inner self and the realization of his selfishness. They become familiar path with the true God is one for all, believers and non believers of God. They become aware of the perception of God and spiritual reality.

Some blessed learn to enter the deeper layers of consciousness beyond the selfishness and his wisdom and memory of thought. They have a sense of unity of God is unique to all beings and is omnipresent, omnipotent, and no attachment to the person and is highly moral, eternal consciousness and donors. He is the creator and loving care to all. For him, religion and spirituality are the creation of human thought – everybody love is unconditional right path
