Is it safe in Jerusalem?

Question by a.mcdonough: Is it safe in Jerusalem?
I’m an American and have always wanted to travel to Jerusalem. I understand Israel and the United States have a good relationship, but as for the people and their sentiments is it still safe to travel? I never thought about it until my girlfriend recently had concerns with me going there alone to visit the historic Christian sites. I apologize for my ignorance to the subject.

No, its not entirely safe. If you do travel to Jerusalem and if you go and sit in one of their cafes, you could be the victim of a terrorist attack. Often times, Palestinian terrorists will try to hit a target such as a small cafe, etc. I learned about this after having watched a youtube video with Henry Rollins. You could always go to youtube and type in “Henry Rollins in Israel.”

It’s actually very safe and stable in most of Jerusalem, at the moment. I’d ignore some Arab sections, which are actually calming down from their rioting.

Israel does a lot of her security, and thus you, under the aegis of that security, shouldn’t really worry much. Statistically, even, it’s safer in Israel than many places in the US, believe it or not, so I’d say that your concerns, while understandable, aren’t something I’d let inhibit you.

I was actually in Israel recently, Jerusalem included, so I can say that you’d be fine. Israel and Jerusalem is safe. Even on the American aspect, don’t worry: Actually, Israelis as a whole really like the American people, so you shouldn’t find anything wrong on that front.

I would just make sure to be with some organized tour or guide when visiting the sites: Not because it’s dangerous, per say, but because it’s hard for someone on their own without knowledge of Israeli society to see it in a short amount of time.
