Salvation Army Volunteer Anthony Rizzo is a Finalist in the WEDU Be More Awards

St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) February 07, 2012

Volunteer Anthony Rizzo of The Salvation Army, St. Petersburg, Florida was recognized as a finalist in the WEDU Be More Awards?, Be More Involved, Mason Dixon Award for Volunteerism. Mason Dixon, community philanthropist and Q105 radio personality, will ultimately choose and present the award winner. The seventh annual Be More Awards will take place on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at the A La carte Event Pavilion in Tampa. The annual event, recognized as the ?Academy? Awards for Nonprofits,? begins at 11:00am.

Anthony Rizzo comes from Long Island, New York and works full-time for Bright Horizons Family Solutions as a teacher and community service liaison. Anthony applied with The Salvation Army in St. Petersburg, Florida in June 2011 and volunteers on his only days off with children in the Red Shield Lodge shelter.

Anthony was an immediate hit in the shelter! He arrived with anticipation, enthusiasm, and bags full of crafts, books, and activities. He volunteered with children while their mothers attended morning workshops and with children of families waiting to register for Christmas assistance. He planned and coordinated monthly activities including a barbeque and holiday activities for shelter mothers and children.

Anthony?s company establishes not-for-profit Bright Spaces for children in Shelters ? ?safe places for children in times of crisis.? Part of our Family Unit is designated a Bright Space but there was very little contact with the establishing center. Part of Anthony?s job is to reconnect the establishing centers with the Bright Spaces they create in community shelters. He made it come alive again with child care volunteers and enrichment programs. He is implementing his company?s ?All Star Volunteer Program? which allows center employees to come once a month for selected activities.

Anthony began his career in child care with Boys & Girls Club in 1996. He has worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters and has been with Bright Horizons for 9 years. Anthony is single and loves to travel. ?I like to be behind the scenes. I do these things because I love children and love to do what I am doing.? One person can make an extraordinary difference and Anthony Rizzo has done so for us in a very short time.

Loboc River Docking Port (By Nightfall)

Something you’ll never see most often than not: Loboc River Night Lights. (See the Bridge with Loboc Church as the backdrop.)

Against a backdrop of the unfinished bridge — which almost cuts into the Loboc Church’s side — as night falls, a different nostalgic and winding Loboc River Cruising is one that is not to be missed.

The lighting of the whole place was specially arranged and we requested it from the town mayor for this photographic assignment. Special thanks to Hon. Leon Calipusan, Ryan Gases (my host / tour guide), Bayon (our tour driver) and Alex Garcia-Calipusan, for this wonderful opportunity to shoot the island of Bohol.

Famous for its floating restaurants and dancing & serenading townsfolks on moored rafts, like pitstops, this is the place to be when in Loboc, Bohol, Philippines. See my Bohol Photography Assignment.

Bohol Factoids:

Bohol Island, southeast of Cebu, is the Philippines’ tenth largest island. Rich in agriculture and fishing, Bohol has been discovered by tourists seeking the simple charm of a rustic retreat. The rich tropical waters off Panglao island ebb and flow above some of the Philippines most seductive dive sites: the islands of Pamilacan and Balicasag.

The oldest stone church is located at Baclayon, six kilometers off Tagbilaran (now contested with the Loboc Church).

At Maribojoc, the Punta Cruz Tower and Cross stands as a silent sentinel guarding the entrance to the bay.

Panglao Church with its twin antique confessionals and the church at Dauis, are worth visiting.

The world’s smallest monkey, the Philippine Tarsier, shares a sanctuary with exotic flora and fauna near the inland town of Bilar.

Bohol’s mysterious Chocolate Hills are the island’s premier attraction. Ranging in height from 40 to 120 meters, the 1268 dot hills resemble like giant scoops of chocolate ice cream during the dry seasons.

Discover Paradise that is Bohol.

Since pre-Hispanic times, Loboc has always been an inland market village where products from the sea were bartered for the agricultural goods of the upland regions. It is said to be the domain of Sigala, the other chief of Bohol, whose contemporary, Sikatuna, made the famous Blood Compact with Miguel Lopez de Legaspi in 1565.

In 1596, the Jesuit Fr. Juan de Torres came to Loboc from Baclayon to found the second oldest Christian settlement in the Island. After the traumatic Moro raid on Baclayon on October 26, 1600, the Jesuit Missionaries decided to move the center of their missionary activities to the inland village of Loboc. By 1602, Loboc became a Parish, making it the oldest in the Island. To the Jesuits, Loboc was the Residencia Boholana, where their local superior resided. It remained so until the middle of the 18th century when the exigencies of the times forced to them to move once more to Baclayon. — Wikipedia

Gold Domes for Sale
christian travel sites
Image by Roads Less Traveled Photography
• HDR Photo

One way some monasteries pay their way is making "gold domes" for other churches. Or a reasonable facsimile of such. Rest assured that in these particular domes, there is no gold. One had a tag of approximately 16,000 hriven, which comes out to around 00. With the price of gold well over 00 an ounce, this is a case where "all that glimmers isn’t gold."

Comments and Faves much appreciated!
