Q&A: Is religion the one true evil in the world?

Question by Some Person: Is religion the one true evil in the world?
Religion caused the holocaust, religion brought down the twin towers, nearly everything that goes wrong in this world, religion is tied to it in some way. Im not saying that all people of religion are bad, nor would I support repealing the 1st ammendment, but wouldnt a religion free world solve a lot of problems?
Lydia, they are also the first at the scene of a kkk meeting. As far as charity, find one christian/ conservative organization that tops the william j clinton foundation, which has even surpassed the christian childrens fund.
Also lydia, your statement is completly untrue, i do hard labor volunteer work every weekend, and the fellow volunteers surrounding me are all young atheist liberals.
Automobiles do cause drunk driving, cause and effect. Thing is, automobiles are a neccesity, religion is not.

Yes , but in the case of the holocaust it wasnt religon. It was “the national Socailist party of germany” and thier leader adolf Hitler.

  2. Ray-is-Back says:

Don’t think Stalin was religious do you? Hitler was not religious was he?

  3. Tom M says:

    You are completely correct. lol.

I despise hardcore religion, and have always believed that the 2 great downfalls of humanity are religion and overpopulation.

  4. Lydia says:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with religion. There is however something wrong with some of the people in religion. No a religion free world would be a sad place. You will find it is mostly religious people that are the first to give aid and charity. They are the first at the scene of disasters and the last to leave. They are the ones that sit by the side of the dying……..and the list could go on.

Conservatives/Christians give WAY more to charity then the Godless that ride on the backs of the poor and needy claiming they are the ones looking out for them. It is anything but the truth.

its not religion.. its how people view and use religion

  6. Bubuh says:

Religion don’t cause anything. People use it as justification. Huge difference.

What about secular communist regimes? Then religious folks would argue religion will save the world. This argument goes no where.

Chasing after religion or ideology dont solve conflicts. That’s why we still have wars. People are too stupid to work to get down to real issues and real problems.

Religion was probably initially created to explain invisible forces, before science existed to explain all that. I mean science make modern war possible, but I don’t see people complaing lets get rid of science.

I think religion in what is in your heart. If your heart is mean and nasty then what do we have. Hate and discontent! If your heart is loving and kind and honest then what do we have. A wonderful life and happiness! That is just my thoughts on religion.

  8. kara says:

You could get rid of religion and you would still have the same problems only worse. It is not religion that is evil, it is how the evil people manipulate that religion and there will always be evil people. Hopefully, there will always be enough good people to rein the evil in.

It is not Religion who brought down the twin towers or even makes people hates each other …. It is love of MONEY AND POWER …

For one thing this is in the wrong section; this belongs in R&S. For another, saying that religion causes wars is no different than saying that automobiles cause drunk driving.

EDIT: No, they don’t. Automobiles don’t get people drunk nor do they lure drunk people into them; it is PEOPLE who get drunk and PEOPLE who drive them while they are drunk.

No, beliefs are what cause bad things in the world to happen, religion is just the biggest base for peoples beliefs. You can’t get away from it by making religion non-existent because people will still believe what they choose to believe. What is more of a problem is money. Money causes more problems than religion. Thank you for trying to make your question a question and not an anti-religious rant by the way, but you really should look at religion from a different view. Most religions are not rule systems, but more like a simple guide for people who believe the same things that those of said religion do. Therefore, it is not the religion that is a bad thing, rather it is the people who try to cheat and corrupt it for thier own personal gain who are bad. Terroristic religions not included. They are rule systems and all about brainwashing. Them in themselves are corrupt, and I don’t consider that a religion. I think of it as more of a dictatorship ruled by a supposed “god”.

religion can be a bad thing, but it can also be a miraculous thing. i meen there are big things that religion was a part of that were horrible [holocaust, twin towers, etc.] but there are also great things that have happened from religion. i can only give you one example for that, me. i suffer from depression, and an anxiety disorder. my parent divorced when i was 6, my mother suffers from, depression, a.d.d., anxiety, crones disease [idk how to spell it]. and i was a mess ever since i learned how to talk. everything around me seemed to crumble, i cut myself for about a year, was on and off medications. nothing seemed to cure me. then one day i was looking through religions and beliefs [for social class] and ended up looking into buddism. that was about 2-3 years ago. i now am buddist, and meditate every day, have a tattoo to symbolize my religion [“With our eyes on the horizon we do not see what lies at our feet.”] and i am much happier. im in a great relationship, and completely off medications. i love life, and i know its all because of me becoming buddist. so in my opinion, i would have to say that its not religion that causes these tragedies, its people taking religion too far. they get defensive and forget what it is they are fighting for. like most religions are based on love and respect, and the people who fight for these religions cant even seem to love or respect themselves, let alone others. at the end of it all its just people, we would be the same with or without religion. religion just seems to be an excuse to these people who want to fight. but to people who actually go with the basic values of their religion, they seem to be fine. too much of a good thing almost always leads to something bad.

you are backward, liberal atheists bhahaha. religion is a necessity, god is a part of you whether you choose to accept him or not. misguided immoral “religious” people are the evil ones.
