What will be the status of the major world religions be in the coming generations? Will religion play the strong role in people’s lives and in our culture? Will membership in major religions grow with the population? Will major religions merge?

as society becomes more and more informed about the way the world actually works and behaves we will see the gradual decline of all religions.

I see the church of the Living God removed, taken out, while the rest along with the unbelievers coming to grips with the hell that is about to be unleashed.

  2. Spiral says:

I believe the amount of people who have a religion will decrease as the years pass.

  3. No Chance Without Jesus says:

    The World ends,

    The Godly go to heaven
    and the others….well.

  4. Dharma- nator says:

Spirituality will eventually be unchained from religion. “You must believe what I believe” will be replaced by personal philosophy and mysticism.

It’ll follow economics. If we can reach the right equilibrium of productivity (likely through some form of capitalism) and wealth distribution, prosperity will chase religion away once and for all.

    But that’s a big “if.”

Religion will play a vital part in the world to come. There are people who are trying to blend all the religions of the world into one. With the exception of Christianity of course. And, this will happen in the near future. They first have to kill all christians to usher in this new one world religion, since christianity is their only opposition, so much blood will be shed.

Already in America and in Europe, there is a falling away from Christianity to paganism. This is encouraging the Moslems to take over America & Europe. They could not take over Christian Europe or America. But now they are encouraged to fight paganism in Europe and America. The pagan religion is already playing a major role in our culture. It is tolerant of Buddhism and Hinduism. But cannot tolerate Christianity, fights Christianity.

It will probably still be around in the future since a lot of people -need- to believe that there is someone watching over them. I hope that eventually people will snap out of it though but i don’t see it happening in my lifetime. People (at least religious people that ive seen >.>) assume that the country would go into chaos….but i seriously doubt that, we still have to abide by the rules of society and people that are already atheist don’t go out and break the law and kill people.

I think the world will, by and large, continue to adopt a more progressive/liberal perspective, with a few hiccups along the way. This will probably lead to a marginalization, diminishing or evolution of more fundamentalist faiths (those which adopt strict literal readings of text, contradict science and have moral proscriptions against things like homosexuality).

I think that the influence of religion in politics will diminish as well, particularly since progressive religions aren’t really politically at odds with secularists.

It’ll still play a significant role in culture, community, etc. for the foreseeable future. This may gradually decline as well, but I think much of that decline has already happened. It may be near its asymptote.

I don’t know about merging religions. Probably what will happen is that certain denominations will simply wane in popularity until they are virtually non-existent, while others will grow and evolve. It’ll be something that people hardly notice though, not like a sudden corporate merger.

The closest thing that I have to a “religion” a belief that the “rapture of the nerds” will take place, that is, a technological singularity (though maybe/probably not in my life time). I think that when the singularity does occur, however, it’s really going to shake up religion as we know it. Thinking machines, fine control over matter at atomic/molecular scales, the end of scarity and the inability for non-augmented humans to achieve at the same level as augments/AI will all profoundly affect the world-views that people adopt, and may very well obsolete religion as we know it.

Just take a look around you in this world today and compare it to the 60’s. That’s when they started taking God out of schools, prayer out of schools, etc.America was in great shape back then, people were respectful of each other, had morals and were mannerly. Parents were respected and listened to, they ruled the children. Now, since you have taken God out of just about everything, you have kids killing kids, rape, perverts galore, crime is everywhere.total disrespect from kids of all ages, even those in their 30’s.God said ‘spare the rod and spoil the child’, well, people did just that and look around you and what do you see? I can tell you that I see a world that I no longer like and people who are wicked and evil. So you tell us where it is headed? It’s just going to keep getting worse and worse until God finally brings on the second coming of Jesus. Believe this or not, the choice is yours, its sad but true. Oh, and its all prophecied in the bible too.

Religions will most probably stay, but as traditions, customs kept by people.
They will be replaced by true spirituality as the connection to the higher force, as spirituality will be able to give us the actual sensation, attainment of that force, what religions, or even science can never achieve.
Here is a short video on, if we have to believe in a God to be spiritual:

    I hope it helps.
