Newberg, OR (Vocus) November 17, 2010

Students interested in finding a top-ranked Christian college that best suits them will find a newly revamped website, topchristiancolleges.org, helpful in their search.

Topchristiancolleges.org was updated this month and serves as a resource for prospective students, providing rankings information for those institutions in the 110-member Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. Among the features is a listing of how schools ranked in Forbes’ 2010-11 “America’s Best Colleges” list and U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 “Best Colleges” guide.

The site includes the links “Browse colleges by Forbes ranking,” “Browse colleges by U.S. News ranking,” “Browse colleges by state,” “Browse colleges alphabetically” and “Top 10 Christian colleges.” Also included are questions to consider when deciding on a college and an overview of what to expect from a Christian college education.

Users can get ranking number, denominational affiliation, year of establishment, location, size and athletic association information about each school. Also provided is a hyperlink to each school’s homepage. According to Forbes, its ranking system is designed to StressFreeFast.com” rel=”StressFreeFast.com”>stress the outputs of a college education rather than the inputs StressFreeFast.com” rel=”StressFreeFast.com”>stressed by the U.S. News and World Report college rankings.

Forbes measured whether students liked their courses (25 percent), achieved post-graduate vocational success (25 percent), graduated in four years (16 and 2/3 percent), and graduated without a lot of debt (20 percent). It also factored in faculty who competed for nationally competitive academic awards (13 1/3 percent).

U.S. News based its criteria on 16 categories of academic quality, including graduation and retention rates, average freshman retention rate, 2009 graduation rate, faculty resources, student-to-faculty ratio, acceptance rate and financial resources. Data was collected from each institution and tabulated.

The “Browse colleges by state” option provides a list of schools by region (i.e., “West,” “Midwest” and “South”) and allows the user to click on each individual state. Included, for example, are links to top Christian colleges in California and top Christian colleges in Indiana.

The site is not affiliated with the Council of Christian Colleges & Universities.
