Application Deadline Nears for Oregon College?s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

Newberg, Ore. (PRWEB) October 22, 2011

Prospective students interested in applying to Oregon?s newest doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program have just over a month to do so, as the application deadline for George Fox University?s first DPT class is Thursday, Dec. 1.

The program will begin hosting classes in the fall of 2012. With the addition, George Fox is one of only two schools in the state to offer a doctor of physical therapy degree. Only three schools in Washington and one in Idaho offer physical therapy, and there are no programs in California north of Sacramento.

An information meeting on George Fox?s program is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Room 155 of the university?s Portland Center, 12753 S.W. 68th Ave., in Portland. The event will allow potential students to meet the program?s director, Tyler Cuddeford, and learn about program distinctives, the admissions process and financial aid.

Those interested in attending can R.S.V.P. to Patrick Kelley, the program?s admissions counselor, at 503-554-2223.

The university will host on-campus interviews with candidates in February of 2012 and will announce admissions decisions in the spring of 2012. Classes will begin in August of next year with 32 students. To apply, visit apply.georgefox.edu.

Demand for physical therapists is expected to increase in the next six years, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, a document created every two years by the U.S. Department of Labor. According to the 2010-11 Handbook, employment of physical therapists is expected to grow 30 percent between 2008 and 2018. The report concluded that job opportunities will be most promising in the acute hospital, rehabilitation and orthopedic settings.

Physical therapy programs are typically three years in length and include more than 100 semester hours in classes that cover anatomy, neuroscience, clinical kinesiology, clinical reasoning, applied physiology, healthcare management, and evaluation techniques for cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, pediatric, geriatric and neurological diseases and disorders. By graduation, students have spent 36 weeks in full-time clinical internships.

George Fox will house its physical therapy program in the Villa Academic Complex on the school?s Newberg, Ore., campus. The school purchased the facility from Providence Newberg Hospital in 2006 and has since converted it into space to accommodate its doctor of physical therapy, doctor of psychology and School of Education programs.

Are there any colleges that have mythology/world religion/philosophy studies?

Question by Gaby: Are there any colleges that have mythology/world religion/philosophy studies?
I’m going to be a sophomore this year in high school, and I want to start looking for colleges. I’m really into world religion and mythology around the world, and a little philosophy. But I’m having a hard time finding some courses/colleges. Ideas/Tips?

Best answer:

Answer by RoaringMice
You can use www.collegeboard.com to find all colleges that offer certain majors. Philosophy tends to be offered by tons of colleges, so you should be able to find that somewhere. Religion/theology/comparative religions is also quite common. Mythology – far less common. But know that it’s likely that any college that offers majors like philosophy and religion and classics, as well as “area studies” like Middle Eastern Studies, Judaic Studies, etc., will offer courses related to mythologies. You’re really looking for a college that has a good, strong liberal arts program – Middlebury, Amherst, UMass Amherst, Smith, U Vermont, Cornell, etc.

Newberg, OR (Vocus) November 17, 2010

Students interested in finding a top-ranked Christian college that best suits them will find a newly revamped website, topchristiancolleges.org, helpful in their search.

Topchristiancolleges.org was updated this month and serves as a resource for prospective students, providing rankings information for those institutions in the 110-member Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. Among the features is a listing of how schools ranked in Forbes’ 2010-11 “America’s Best Colleges” list and U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 “Best Colleges” guide.

The site includes the links “Browse colleges by Forbes ranking,” “Browse colleges by U.S. News ranking,” “Browse colleges by state,” “Browse colleges alphabetically” and “Top 10 Christian colleges.” Also included are questions to consider when deciding on a college and an overview of what to expect from a Christian college education.

Users can get ranking number, denominational affiliation, year of establishment, location, size and athletic association information about each school. Also provided is a hyperlink to each school’s homepage. According to Forbes, its ranking system is designed to StressFreeFast.com” rel=”StressFreeFast.com”>stress the outputs of a college education rather than the inputs StressFreeFast.com” rel=”StressFreeFast.com”>stressed by the U.S. News and World Report college rankings.

Forbes measured whether students liked their courses (25 percent), achieved post-graduate vocational success (25 percent), graduated in four years (16 and 2/3 percent), and graduated without a lot of debt (20 percent). It also factored in faculty who competed for nationally competitive academic awards (13 1/3 percent).

U.S. News based its criteria on 16 categories of academic quality, including graduation and retention rates, average freshman retention rate, 2009 graduation rate, faculty resources, student-to-faculty ratio, acceptance rate and financial resources. Data was collected from each institution and tabulated.

The “Browse colleges by state” option provides a list of schools by region (i.e., “West,” “Midwest” and “South”) and allows the user to click on each individual state. Included, for example, are links to top Christian colleges in California and top Christian colleges in Indiana.

The site is not affiliated with the Council of Christian Colleges & Universities.
