‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich Christian Testimony

Peter Press Maravich (June 22, 1947 – January 5, 1988) was an American basketball player. Maravich starred in college at Louisiana State University (LSU) and for three NBA teams. He is still the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer with 3667 points scored and an average of 44.2 points per game. He accomplished this without the benefit of a three-point line and despite the fact that NCAA rules prohibited him from playing on the varsity team as a freshmen. Years later former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown charted every college game Maravich played, taking into consideration all shots he took. The coach calculated that at the NCAA rule of a three-point line at 19-foot, 9-inches from the rim, Maravich would have averaged thirteen 3-point scores per game, which would have given the player a career average of 57 points per game. While playing a pick-up game with Dr. James Dobson before a planned interview on the radio broadcast, ‘Focus on the Family,’ Maravich died suddenly at age 40 as a consequence of a previously undetected congenital heart defect. His last words, spoken less than a minute before he had died, were “I feel great.” Music: Stellar Kart, ‘Jesus Loves You’, Expect The Impossible All music used by permission. Was he rich? More than likely… ENRICHED, most definitely. I once was lost, but now i’m found. God bless your memory and your legacy as a man, a player, and a son of God.

I think that what Pete was saying that basketball was ALL he had know since age 7 or so and at some point, he faced up to the crowded emptiness of his “success” and knew that there had to be more to this life. At least, that’s the way I took it… While it is ironic that he literally died playing basketball, he was not playing for adulation, rather he was goofing off in a casual game with fellow believers.

He who does not honor the son as he honors the father does not honor the father.-Jesus Christ.
I am guessing your muslim cause most muslims ask that question. Jesus was worshiped and called God ten times in the Bible. Not once did he rebuke them. Why?

yahh what an irony..such coincidence..or was it?

  7. CHRISTismyROCK83 says:

In an interview, Pete had mentioned that he did not want to die or a heart attack when he was 40 when playing basketball. It was just pure irony that he died in that exact circumstance.

ur right…i always trip out about it. is it because he received christ and going to a better place? i wonder!

  9. Pheozer says:

wait i dont understand, he dont want to play 10 years and die of a heart attack at 40. but yet he really died at 40 due to a heart attack even after receiving christ, what does it mean?

Pistol Pete was my basketball idol in high school. I’ve followed the same path as he did. I hope I’ll be able to shoot some hoops with him when I get to Heaven.
